Iglesia y convento de Santo Domingo

The church of Santo Domingo and its convent compiles a great number of works of art of the Quiteña School and others brought from Europe. The church is covered by works in cedar and gold leaf. Within the whole, the Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary is the best known. (2 minute walk from hotel).

Plaza y conjunto San Francisco

Known as «the Escorial of the New World”, because it is the largest architectural complex in the historic centers of America. In its 40,000 m2 there are thirteen cloisters, three temples and a large Atrium. It is the cradle of the famous Quiteña School of art. Plaza de la Independencia

Plaza de la Independencia also known as Plaza Grande, in it are several architectural gems such as the Monument to the Heroes of August 10, 1809 and The Metropolitan Cathedral. Mindo: Cloud Forest

We have an early departure from Quito heading to the northwest, passing along the edge of the Andes. Lush vegetation and orchids await us in our first stop of Pahuma, an area that is protected by the inhabitants of the sector.

We continue our descent to the town of Mindo which is one of the most important protected areas of butterflies in South America. There are optional adrenaline-fueled activities including canopy or sliding down a wire of two towers.

Quilotoa Lake

We depart early in the morning through the Avenue of the Volcanoes to visit the breathtaking Laguna Quilotoa. This is one of the most beautiful and glass-green lakes, situated in the crater of an extinct volcano. The volcanic crater is still perfectly formed, allowing visitors to get a sense of its past history and of its formidable power.

We will walk down from the top of the crater to the lake’s edge. Once at the bottom of the lake we can  enjoy the tranquility. To return we can walk or choose to take a mule up the steep slopes. Optional Lunch and return to Quito.

Cotopaxi Volcano

In the morning we drive south through the Avenue of the Volcanoes to the base of the Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in the world at 5,897 meters (19437 feet ). The National Park was established as an ecological sanctuary with excellent opportunities to soak up nature and learn about the importance of the importance of the paramo landscapes all around.
If the weather allows us we can take a walk up to the Refuge José Rivas to 4800m (15,748 feet). This height is considered to be equivalent to the highest point in Europe.
Optional lunch at Hacienda La Cienega, a traditional hacienda built in the XVII century. Return to Quito.

Otavalo Market

Early in the morning we drive north through the Panamerican Highway, crossing the town of Calderon; famous for bread doll figures. We pass by Cayambe surrounded by the heavily cultivated pastures of old haciendas.

We stop at the San Pablo Lake where there is a fine viewpoint at the border of the Imbabura province. Here we can taste famous traditional varieties of cheese and salty biscuits.

Shopaholics, and even those that like the odd souvenir will be delighted by the Otavalo Market. The Otavalos are the most ambitious and wealthy merchants in Ecuador. Ponchos, wooden items and jewelry are sold here. Then we visit the Cotacachi Cayapas Reserve where we can see one of the most amazing sceneries of Ecuador at the Cuicocha Lake. After that we arrive to the village of Cotacachi famous for the quality of leather goods at unbelievable prices. Shops along the main streets are filled with bags, saddles, jackets, boots, vests and purses for which the city is well known. Optional Lunch. Return to Quito.

Papallacta Hot Spring

In the morning we traverse the road used by Francisco de Orellana on his journey to discover the Amazon  River, passing through landscapes of great mystery. This is one of the best refuges of sweet water  sourced from this  incredible ecosystem.

Upon arrival we will take a short walk to enjoy the flora and fauna native. Then soak into thermal pools with healing properties and, relax.
